About Tony

Det. Frederick A. (Tony) Avendorph (Retired)

Mr. Tony Avendorph retired December 2009 after forty years in Law Enforcement, serving with the Illinois Department of Corrections, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Prince George’s County Police Department (MD). Tony has conducted gang training since 1978, and has been involved in numerous major gang investigations, including Operation Mano Dura (MS-13 RICO case in 2005-2008), Beltway Sniper investigation (2002), Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (Bloods and Black Guerilla Family) Investigation (2008), and numerous street level investigations regarding local Washington, DC and Maryland Street gangs. While in Community Policing, Tony worked the town of Seat Pleasant, MD, Palmer Park, MD, and created the County Multi-Agency Services Team (CMAST), which partnered all county resources to attack code violations, quality of life, and environmental issues. Tony became a licensed Maryland Private Investigator in 2010, and has worked numerous criminal defense, missing persons, child custody, and workplace investigations. Tony Avendorph Associates, LLC is contracted to conduct Federal Background Investigations for several Federal agencies. Tony is also an advisor to the United States Naval Academy Judo Team, and conducts numerous Judo clinics in Maryland and Virginia.

Tony brings a passionate, no nonsense, and thorough approach to training. He has consulted other Law Enforcement agencies and Correctional facilities on street and prison gang issues. He is also a court recognized expert on several major street gangs

Tony credits his 64 years in the sport of Judo as a competitor and instructor since 1967 with a commitment to excellence and discipline, holding the rank of Fifth Degree Black Belt. Tony has been a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc since Spring, 1969, and is a founding member of Epsilon Beta Chapter at Western Illinois University.
